PhytoLink Australia has been selected as Project Co-ordinator for two PhD studies jointly funded by the Australian Research Council, Queensland Dept of Health, Queensland Rail, NSW Dept of Agriculture and PhytoLink
Australia. The studies investigating plants with a capacity to hyperaccumulate arsenic within their biomass, began in January 2002 and will run for three years.

Marnie Nelson (UQ) and Tracey Howkins (CQU) PhD students.
Professor David Midmore (Central Queensland University) is supervising the PhD study that
focuses on plant selection and growth performance in arsenic contaminated land from the Rockhampton campus of CQU. Dr. Jack Ng, Manager, National Research Centre for Environmental Toxicology is supervising the second PhD study being carried out at University of Queensland’s St. Lucia campus and is investigating plant toxicology and contaminant disposal. Dr. Lukas van Zweiten, Research Scientist, Waste Management and Remediation (NSW Dept of Agriculture) is joint investigator for both studies.
