                                     Pomona Landfill

Noosa Council has engaged PhytoLink Australia Pty. Ltd. to carry out a field trial at Pomona Landfill to establish the suitability of phytoremediation as a means of minimising ambient methane emissions and for hydraulic control at the landfill. The field trial (2003/4) is seen as Phase 1 of a two phase project spanning two years (2003-5) and culminating in naturescaping all the available area as Phase 2 and onwards. Progression to Phase 2 (naturescaping) would depend on successful outcomes for Phase 1 (field trial).

PhytoLink has engaged Dr. Nanjappa Ashwath (Central Queensland University) as Principal Investigator for this trial. Plants will be selected according to their expected ability to degrade methane and as ‘bio pumps’ and will be planted out in November 2003 according to a planting grid designed by Dr. Ashwath.
